Warmer weather is finally here, which means it’s almost time for gardening, grilling, and relaxation. But warmer weather also means it’s time to make sure your home is ready to take the heat. A little preparation means enjoying your home all summer long!
To start, change the filters in your heating/cooling system. This should be done regularly, but it’s especially important in summer due to all the allergens in the air!
Bugs want to escape the sun just like you do. The good news is that you can help prevent this by making sure all windows and doors are properly sealed. Check the caulking and fix any gaps or drafts with new weather stripping and caulking. Don’t forget to replace any worn or cracked weather-stripping – this can even cut your energy bill by helping to prevent warm air from getting in!
Did you know that your ceiling fan is designed to rotate differently depending on the season? In winter, your fan should rotate clockwise to help distribute the heat that has risen. But in summer, you should switch your fam to rotate counter-clockwise at a higher speed, so you can get some breeze going!
Summer weather sometimes means stormy weather. Make sure all your windows and doors are properly sealed and caulked, and make sure to test your gutters! To do this, turn on your garden hose and place it inside the gutter so the water begins to run. Then just walk around your home’s perimeter and check out the gutter to make sure water isn’t creeping out where it shouldn’t.
